Waxing Hardwood Floors in Naples, FL
The traditional finish that produces a wonderful patina as it ages — hand-applied wax for classic, historic, and character-rich floors.
The Service
Waxing Hardwood Floors, done right.
Before polyurethane, great floors were waxed — and for certain homes, wax is still the most beautiful choice. A waxed hardwood floor has a soft, hand-rubbed luster no plastic film can imitate, and it develops a rich patina that deepens with the years. In Olde Naples cottages, historic restorations, and homes built around natural materials, a traditional wax finish is the authentic complement.
Waxing is craft work: the floor must be properly prepared, the wax applied thinly and evenly, and the surface machine-buffed to a warm glow. We maintain existing waxed floors, restore neglected ones, and apply new wax finishes over suitable surfaces — and we'll tell you frankly when a modern finish would serve your lifestyle better, because wax rewards owners who love its ritual.

Good to Know
Floor Waxing — your questions, answered
Is a wax finish practical in Florida?
With the right expectations, yes. Wax floors want consistent care and don't love standing water, so they suit dining rooms, bedrooms, and studies better than kitchens and baths. For the right room and owner, nothing else looks like it.
How often does a waxed floor need re-waxing?
Typically once or twice a year for lived-on rooms, with buffing in between to revive the luster. High-traffic paths can be spot-waxed anytime — one of wax's genuine advantages.
Can you wax over my polyurethane floor?
You can, but we usually advise against it — wax on poly complicates future recoating. If you love the waxed look, we'll suggest either a true wax system or a modern matte finish that captures much of the aesthetic without the constraint.
My old waxed floors look dark and grimy. Can they be saved?
Usually, beautifully. Decades of wax and dirt strip away to reveal the original wood, and a fresh wax system restores the intended glow — a transformation we love doing in older Naples homes.
